It is the Sunday School at the Alleghany County Juvenile Home, sponsored by the Council of Churches and the Board of Directors, for neglected and delinquent children ranging from six to 18 years old. Between 70 and 80 children attend each Sunday, singing hymns, repeating scriptures, listening to Bible stories and worshipping at an altar (above) made by inmates of Western Penitentiary. Dr. Sylvester C. Michelfelder, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly acting director of the Division, has become chairman of a staff committee directing material aid work. Northam, an accountant by profession, was with the British Ministry of Food during the war, later becoming supply assistant to UNRRA in London. Anderson, senior secretary of the international committee of the YMCA, is shown at the recent meeting here of the Department of Reconstruction and Inter-Church Aid of the World Council of Churches. Mr. Anderson, who has his headquarters in Paris, served for 17 years with the Y in France before the war. An Episcopalian, he represented the organization on the Allied Repatriation Commission for Prisoners of War after spending 13 months in Paris when the Germans occupied the city. Miss Iredale’s committee has worked closely with the Department of Reconstruction and Inter-Church Aid of the World Council of Churches in Geneva.
