LATROBE, Pa. -- A theological colloquy on Catholic-Jewish relations was held
at St. Vincent’s Archabbey under sponsorship of the American Benedictine
Academy and the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Among the 26
participants were Philip Scharper, editor of Sheed and Ward, New York, noted
Catholic publishers (left); and Dr. Joseph Lichten, director of the
Anti-Defamation League’s Department of Inter-Cultural Affairs. Sponsors
said the theological dialogue was the first of its kind since the Vatican
Council last year gave preliminary approval to a draft statement exculpating
the Jewish people of the ancient deicide charge in Christ’s crucifixion.
