Text transcribed from caption: P-31738 NCCJ EXAMINES RESPONSIBILITIES IN
CHANGING TIMES PHILADELPHIA -- Some 130 officials of the National Conference
of Christians and Jews, concerned with responsibility for the public order,
met in Philadelphia to discuss the civil rights struggle, the urban crisis
and the interreligious situation. Shown at a luncheon held in connection with
a national staff meeting are from left: Dr. Lewis Webster Jones, president of
the NCCJ; and Philip Scharper, editor-in-chief of Sheed & Ward publishing
house in New York, who spoke on the religious relevance to the temporal
order. Dr. Jones said the purpose of the meeting was to “examine our
responsibilities in the rapidly changing period in which we live.” Credit
