The drive will be conducted in 25 cities throughout the country and has the endorsement of the Foreign Missions Conference of North America, the United Council of Church Women, and the Federal Council of Churches. Hugo Lassalle, S.J., Superior of all Jesuits in Japan, is one of the few surviving eye witnesses of the atom bombing of Hiroshima. Father Lassalle, who is to attend the forthcoming General Congregation of the Jesuit Fathers in Rome --where he will report on missionary activity in the Orient -- recalled the explosion as a gigantic wave of heat followed by a blinding flash. “Then everything collapsed, the ceilings, the windows, the furniture.” Father Lassalle, a veteran of 15 years service in Japan, was born in Germany. Text transcribed from caption: #C-4301 CHILDHOOD CHURCH RE-CREATED NEW YORK -- Built from memory is this replica of the church Dominic Zazzera attended in Pieve, Italy before coming to this country as a teen-age-youth. Zazzera, who is chef in a restaurant here, took special pride in the model, for his grandfather designed the original church. Complete with lights, pews, altars and carpeting for the center aisle, the church is a masterpiece of detail. A small victrola sounds the Ave Maria and bells from the chime tower. Picture was painted by a Jewish artist and donated to the Shrine. This year commemorative services mark the 300th anniversary of the death of the two martyrs, St. Isaac Jogues, S.J., and St. John de LaLande, Jesuit lay brother. They were put to death in 1646 after being tortured by Mohawk Indians. Four years before their martyrdom St. Rene Goupil, S.J., suffered the same fate after being captured with St. Isaac Jogues. McNamara, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx, who makes all his parish calls in his newly-acquired vehicle. He was a U.S. Army chaplain in Europe, and was on the long trek from England trough France, Belgium and Germany. Father McNamara obtained his jeep through the War Assets Administration when, unable to secure an automobile, he exercised his priority as a veteran to buy one of its surplus Army cars.
