Description:
Text transcribed from caption: C-31692 ROSARY OF GRANITE AND STEEL HOLLISTON, Mass. -- This is believed to be the largest rosary in the world. It covers three acres at the Our Lady of Fatima shrine in Holliston, Mass., and weighs about 350 tons. Each bead consists of an egg-shaped block of granite five feet long, all connected by huge steel anchor chains. The crucifix is of white marble, six feet in length. On every bead is a copper plate bearing the “Hail Mary” in 53 languages. Father Oddo Galeazzi, S.X., shrine director, says the rosary is constructed to enable families to pray together as they walk along the 950-foot pathway surrounding it. The rosary was designed and executed by the Xaverian Missionary Fathers who established the shrine in 1949 next to their seminary. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ED-BOS-10B-64-NAB)
