Description:
Text transcribed from caption: #22 HISTORIC AMERICAN CHURCHES MONTEREY,
Calif. -- San Carlos Borromeo, above, is known as the Father of the Missions
and holds the greatest historical interest of all the missions founded by
Padre Junipero Serra, the Apostle of California. It is here that Padre
Junipero is buried. The walls of this old church are five feet thick and
curve inward gradually to meet the ceiling. The parabolic arch thus formed
makes San Carlos probably the only building of its kind. (One of a Series)
