PHILIPPINES MANILA -- Philippines children have their own “Pied Piper” in
the person of Sister Elizabeth Cecile, a Maryknoll missionary who
intersperses her religious lessons with music. The nun, who comes from Wheat
Ridge, Colo., has found that there’s nothing like a flute to draw an eager
audience of children -- but unliked the famous Pied Piper of Hamelin, she
draws them into the family of God. Before joining the Maryknoll Sisters, the
American nun played five instruments in a band -- flute, clarinet, saxophone,
violin and piano. Her career includes five years in a professional
“all-girl” band and two tours of the Pacific as a USO entertainer. Credit
