Text transcribed from caption: NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH TO RISE ON HIROSHIMA’S RUINS #1727 HIROSHIMA, Japan -- Devastation such as this at the Roman Catholic missionaries’ residence followed the dropping of the atom bomb which levelled all buildings on the grounds. A new church will be built here, however, in commemoration of the 200,000 natives of the city who died in the disaster. Father Hugo Lassalle, S.J., was in the building which stood here when the bomb dropped, but escaped with serious cuts and bruises. He has erected a hut (right) where he lives and holds services.
