Text transcribed from caption: BUS SOLVES EVANGELISTS’ HOUSING SHORTAGE #s3519 LOS ANGELES -- Ten members of the Libbey family, touring evangelists, are shown on the “back porch” of their rolling home. They travel from state to state presenting programs of religious music in different churches. The entire family is musical, including 82-year-old Grandfather, who plays the drums. The bus was bought five years ago after being honorably retired by the Los Angeles transportation system. It has been converted into living quarters by installing Pullman-style berths in the lower deck that fold out of the ceiling. When the berths come down, curtains automatically fall over the windows. The upper deck is used to store musical instruments and for cooking and eating when the weather is fine. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ANH-LA-MES-5B-6-W)

A historic relic of Frontier Christianity, the “church on wheels” owned by the Northern Baptist Convention was on exhibition here before making its last trip to the convention’s assembly ground at Green Lake, Wisconsin. Known as “Grace” the car contained pulpit, organ, pews for 65 worshippers and a three-room apartment for the minister and his family. Standing beside the car here are the Rev. and Mrs. Howard Parry who used the car at Provo, Utah for two years. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (PA-NY-LM-5A-6-W-B)

The school enrolls boys whose fathers are either dead, or have divorced or deserted the boy’s mother. It has 700 acres of land, and the students do practically all the farm work. Chief crop is grain, but the boys also raise chickens and pigs, and tend to a herd of 150 guernsey cows and heifers. Here a faculty member chats with a group of students while waiting for the supper bell. About 500 applications for admission to the school are received each year but only 25 students are selected.
