Text transcribed from caption: PC-31175 LIFE-SIZE ‘LAST SUPPER’ SCULPTURE SEEN AT FAIR NEW YORK -- A life-size wood sculpture of the Last Supper went on display in the Protestant and Orthodox Center at the New York World’s Fair. Created by Domenic Zappia, sculptor of Kansas City, Mo., each of the 13 figures is carved from a separate 500-pound block of grained Arkansas basswood. The artist said the work was inspired by the famed Leonardo Da Vinci fresco painting. Though the arrangement of characters is similar, the individual interpretations are different. Text transcribed from caption: P-31328 MORMON CHOIR AT NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR NEW YORK -- Members of the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir from Salt Lake City, Utah, perform on a special platform over the reflecting pool in front of the Mormon Pavilion at the New York World’s Fair. In addition to a concert during “Utah Pioneer Day” ceremonies at the Fair, the choir performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall during a tour of major American cities. Jacob Javits (R.-N.Y.), at left, presents the Gold Award for 1963 of the George Washington Carver Memorial Institute to Evangelist Billy Graham in recognition of his work to improve race relations and human welfare. Presentation was made during ceremonies at the New York World’s Fair. Some 4,000 people gathered at the Court of the Universe to hear the famed preacher on “Billy Graham Day” at the Fair. He also received the Fair’s Silver Medallion from Robert Moses (right) and a $10,000 gift to support his ministry from the Billy Graham Special Train Committee of Tennessee, Inc. At the evangelist’s left is William Rowe, former Deputy Police Commissioner of New York City, and standing on the rostrum is Dan Piatt, director of the Billy Graham Pavilion at the Fair. The mark was reached when Lynn and Robert Simmons of Clifton, Iowa, shown here with their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Simmons, passed through the gates. Earlier, as part of “Billy Graham Day” at the Fair, the evangelist addressed a crowd of 4,000, calling for a “great religious revival” to save America from anarchy and revolution. Text transcribed from caption: EPO-31199 ARCHBISHOP IAKOVOS DEDICATES GREEK PAVILION NEW YORK --Archbishop Iakovos of New York, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America (left), dedicates the Pavilion of Greece at the New York World’s Fair. He is shown during the ceremony of the “blessing of the water” with Deacon Polycarp Athanasiou of the archdiocese, and George Gavas, consul general of Greece. Archbishop Iakovos officiated at the ancient Byzantine Rites traditionally used to invoke divine blessings on a new building or venture. Text transcribed from caption: C-31286 VATICAN’S CHILD EXHIBIT POPULAR WITH ADULTS NEW YORK -- Parent accompanying youngsters to the children’s exhibits at the Vatican Pavilion “have been just as curious and enthusiastic as the children,” reports Msgr. John J. Gorman, director of the Catholic pavilion at the World’s Fair. Shown viewing some of the displays, which emphasize Christ’s love for children, are two visitors with Miss Ruth Anderberg, a pavilion hostess. Placed at a child’s eye level, the many displays include the Litany of the Blessed Mother on an umbrella carousel tree, flowers and animals used as symbols of virtue and sin, and a “peep box” showing the story of Noah and the Arc [Ark] in animation.
