Description:
Text transcribed from caption: C-31711 EDITH STEIN’S SISTER AT AWARD CEREMONY NEW YORK -- Shown standing before a portrait of Edith Stein, a Jewish Carmelite nun who died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1942, is Dr. Erna Biberstein, center, the nun’s sister and only surviving member of their family. With her, at the Edith Stein Guild’s annual Communion breakfast, are Mary Di Blasi, vice-president of the Guild, and Father Victor J. Donovan, C.P., of West Hartford, Conn., a past winner of the group’s citation. This year’s Edith Stein Award was presented at the breakfast to the Paulist Press for fostering better relations among Christians and Jews. The Guild, founded in 1955, promotes Jewish-Christian understanding and aids Jewish converts to Catholicism. Sister Edith Stein is a candidate for beatification, a major step toward sainthood in the Church. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (E-10C-64-NAB)
