Description:
Text transcribed from caption: #762 “THE CHRIST OF THE BATTLEFIELD” This
oil painting, “The Christ of the Battlefield,” was done by Corporal James
Schinke of Rochester, Minn., who is stationed near Munich, Germany. The
painting was unveiled at a service in the United Brethren Church, Rochester.
Preaching the sermon, the Rev. V. E. Hilton explained the meaning of the
painting. “The Christ pictured,” he said, “is a pendering [sic.
pondering] Christ, who wonders whether man can write and maintain a just
peace and whether the people of His Church will accept their responsibility
of leading the world to such a peace.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS
