Text transcribed from caption: C-29850 SOMEBODY CALL A CAB? CLEVELAND, Ohio -- St. Joseph’s Academy, Catholic high school for girls in Cleveland, called a cab here for their students -- some 600 of them. The girls wanted to attend a special performance of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” at the nearby Lakewood Civic Auditorium. School officials found that chartered buses were too expensive for a relatively short haul, so they made a deal with a local cab company -- 25 cents a head. Nearly 40 cabs were put into a shuttle operation between the school and auditorium. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (RF-CLE-9B-63-RB)

Text transcribed from caption: PC-30692 CLOSED CIRCUIT TV AIDS INSTRUCTION AT GIRLS' HOME PHEONIX, Ariz. -- As Mrs. Myrtle Kuykendall (top left) gives instructions, girls in each of 11 cottages at the Good Shepherd Home for Girls at Phoenix, Ariz., watch over a special closed circuit television system and prepare their meals. The TV system is the first of its kind to be installed in one of some 400 Good Shepheard Homes throughout the world. The homes, for the rehabilitation of girls, are operated by the Roman Catholic Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. Designated GS-TV, Channel 4, the station can originate telecasts from 42 different locations in the school and on the campus, for athletic events as well as classroom work. Arthur Carroll, an engineer and technician who designed and built the system, gives an explanation of camera operation to Mother Mary Euphrasis, president of the school, (bottom, left). The channel also features programs by special speakers. The first of these was the Rev. Rex A. Sprink, Methodist clergyman in Phoenix, who gave four weekly half-hour talks. Text transcribed from caption: P-30757 SOLUTION SEEN FOR "WORST REFUGEE PROBLEM" CALCUTTA, India -- Many Indian children have never known anything but the squalor surrounding the Sealdah railway station at Calcutta, India, where more than 1,200 families -- nearly 8,000 persons -- have lived since the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. Their plight has been termed the "worst refugee problem in the world." But through a resettlement program now underway, hope for a better life exists. Church representations and the Indian government have completed long negotiations to establish a site 25 miles north of Calcutta, where refugees totally without employment will build homes and be given material aid. Others will be given assistance in locating within the greater city area. The first several hundred refugee families were moved in March and by early June it is expected all will be resettled. The World Council of Churches has appealed to member Churches for $500,000 to finance the program, which is being handled by the Bengal Refugee Service, an agency of the National Christian Council of India. The Indian government donated land for the resettlement village. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (2-NY-3D-64-NBM)

Text transcribed from caption: C-31183 CHILDREN ‘ADOPT’ JAPANESE PRIEST CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Japanese priest, Sacred Heart Father Augustine Hiroshi Kabayshi, offered his first Solemn Mass in Cleveland’s Our Lady of Good Counsel church because the 1,049 pupils of the parish school adopted him. The children tried to raise enough money through bake sales and raffles to bring the priest’s parents to the U.S. for his recent ordination in Fall River, Mass. Failing in that, they decided to buy the priest a chalice. Making the presentation here are David Harden and Mary Ann Benedict. The children heard of Father Augustine, a theological student in the U.S. since 1958 and the first Japanese native ordained in the Sacred Heart Fathers, through a priest of the parish who served as a missionary in Japan.
