-- A group of 125 Jewish teenagers, attending a summer camp run by the Union
of American Hebrew Congregations near Oconomowoc, Wis., were guests at a
Solemn High Mass celebrated at St. Jerome’s Catholic church here. Shown
after the service on the church steps are some of the Jewish young people,
their leaders and Father Ralph Monaghan (in vestments), pastor of St.
Jerome’s. Other adults are (from left): Howard Bogot, program director at
the Union Institute camp; Irving Kaplan, the camp’s director; Rabbi Joseph
Buchler of the camp rabbinic faculty; and Oscar Miller, camp educational
director. Most of the Jewish teenagers are from the Chicago area. They
attended the Mass at the invitation of Father Monaghan who heard they were
studying Christian customs. He was asked by camp leaders to speak with the
teenagers prior to the Mass to explain Catholic worship, priests’ vestments
and Mass vessels. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO
