Text transcribed from caption: RABBINICAL COUNCIL DECIDES MARITAL STATUS #j-3006 BUDAPEST -- The persecution and death of millions of Jews in Europe during the Nazi regime has resulted in the breakup of their families and subsequent bewilderment on the part of many as to their exact marital status. This has been further complicated by the lack of evidence of death, necessitating relaxation of the usual laws. To cope with the problem, the Rabbinical Council of the Central Bureau of Hungarian Orthodox Jewry has set up a special court to rule on cases of remarriage for all Eastern Europe. Here the court is considering the cases of two women (left) whose husbands have disappeared. Seated at the table are (left to right): Rabbi Paneth, secretary of the court; Rabbi Jacob Lebovitsch; Rabbi M. Cohn; Rabbi Welz, and Rabbi Usher Babad. He was “Army Bishop” of Admiral Nicholas Horthy’s forces after the last war. Although the bishop has been in retirement since 1928, most of the material for the accusations against him was gathered from his speeches and activities during World War I and in the “counter-revolutionary” period following it when Horthy’s regime superceded [sic] that of the Bolshevik Bela Kun. About 370 of the 700 children in Great Falls without church contact attended the sessions. Conducted in homes all over the city, and centered especially in areas where the census showed many children not attending Sunday schools, the Bible story hours were carried out in the hope that children would be interested enough to eventually enter Sunday schools. Plans are now being considered to conduct another series in the spring. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (MB-GF-MB-11-5-5)
