Text transcribed from caption: C-45862 LAUNCHES ADOPTION DRIVE NEW YORK -- New York Gov. Malcolm Wilson takes a few minutes out of a press conference to talk to a youngster at the New York Foundling Hospital, which is run by the New York archdiocese. The governor visited the facility to kickoff a special drive to disseminate information on the adoption of handicapped and hard-to-place children. The statewide drive, which is expected to last six months, began at the Foundling Hospital because the facility placed more children for adoption, a total of 207, last year than any other adoption agency in New York State. “The permanence of a home is important to everyone, but especially children,” the governor observed. New York State has about 2,000 hard-to-place youngsters on its adoption role, but the governor pointed out that recent legislation not only makes it easier for parents to adopt but that economic assistance is available. Text transcribed from caption: PC-31952 SEMINARIANS’ RACIAL CHRISTMAS CARD ST. PAUL, Minn. -- This unusual Christmas card was a result of the involvement of a group of seminarians in a racial justice project last summer in Mississippi. The greeting card reproduces a photo of a Negro boy in a Harlem slum. Participating in the racial project were about 100 students preparing for the priesthood at Nazareth Hall, minor seminary of the St. Paul archdiocese, in suburban Arden Hills. As a result of their work they were determined to have a “relevant” message dealing with racial justice on one of the Christmas card they prepare and sell annually. The card reads: “Christ is here. Go to meet Him. He is here…in His poor, in the afflicted, in the little ones, in those thirsting for justice, in His least brethren, in the crucified. Embrace Him.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (WT-MINN-12D-64-NAB)

John J. Gorman, director of the Catholic pavilion at the World’s Fair. Shown viewing some of the displays, which emphasize Christ’s love for children, are two visitors with Miss Ruth Anderberg, a pavilion hostess. Placed at a child’s eye level, the many displays include the Litany of the Blessed Mother on an umbrella carousel tree, flowers and animals used as symbols of virtue and sin, and a “peep box” showing the story of Noah and the Arc [Ark] in animation.
