Text transcribed from caption: P-31991 BILLY GRAHAM KEEPS FIT CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Evangelist Billy Graham, 45, won a rating of “perfect health” after undergoing five hours of rigorous testing of his physical condition at the University of Illinois campus. For two months, the Southern Baptist clergyman participated in physical fitness exercises under the direction of T.K. Cureton, head of the university’s physical fitness laboratory (right). Looking on is Bradley Rothermel, member of the university’s physical education staff. Mr. Graham addressed some 13,500 students and adults at a public service highlighting the Seventh Inter-Varsity Missionary Convention on the university campus. Description:
Text transcribed from caption: PC-30290 BILLY GRAHAM AT CATHOLIC COLLEGE BELMONT, N.C. -- “A high point of my career” is the way Evangelist Billy Graham described his first address before a Roman Catholic institution. Here, the Southern Baptist clergyman is shown with the Very Rev. John Oetgen, O.S.B., president of Belmont Abbey College. Twelve hundred students gave Dr. Graham an ovation on conclusion of his talk. He told them the Second Vatican Council provided for better interreligious understanding and promoted the “exchange of ideas and thoughts.” Father Oetgen said the Catholic college should not have been praised for inviting Dr. Graham -- “We should have been blamed for having waited so long.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (FRE-NC-11E-63-W)

Text transcribed from caption: PC-30289 CATHOLIC STUDENTS HEAR BILLY GRAHAM BELMONT, N.C. -- Evangelist Billy Graham is obviously having an enjoyable time as he is interviewed by students of Belmont Abbey College, a Roman Catholic institution at Belmont, N.C. With him is the Very Rev. John Oetgen, O.S.B., president. The Southern Baptist clergyman addressed 1,200 students who gave him a standing ovation. It was his first address at a Catholic institution. Father Oetgen said Belmont Abbey had been praised for inviting the evangelist -- “but after hearing Dr. Graham, I think instead of praise we should have been blamed for having waited so long.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (FRE-NC-11E-63-W)

Text transcribed from caption: P-30806 EASTER SUN SILHOUETTES EVANGELIST BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A setting sun silhouettes Billy Graham as he preaches to nearly 50,000 whites and Negroes attending an unprecedented integrated Easter service in Birmingham -- a city of racial tensions. Telling the crowd that “it is good to stand together for Christ,” the famed evangelist made a fervent plea to all men to work harder for racial justice. The service -- at which no racial incidents were reported -- was the largest integrated religious rally ever assembled in Alabama. It had been arranged by the bi-racial committee of Protestant, Roman Catholic and Jewish laymen. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (W-3E-64-NAB)

Text transcribed from caption: P-30801 INTEGRATED CROWD IN SOUTH HEARS BILLY GRAHAM BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Left photo shows part of the integrated crown which jammed Birmingham’s Legion Field for an Easter service addressed by evangelist Billy Graham (right). Attended by an estimated 50,000 whites and Negroes, the rally was described as the largest integrated audience ever assembled in this city of racial violence. The significance of the event was brought home to all present by the noted evangelist when he told them: “What a moment and what an hour for Birmingham!” The Southern Baptist minister urged his audience to make new efforts to ease the city’s race tensions and to end prejudice in America. Some 300 police were on duty at the football stadium, but no incidents were reported. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (JA-BIRM-3E-64-NAB)
