Augustin Cardinal Bea, president of the Vatican Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity, is shown as he delivered a message from Pope Paul VI: “For centuries we have lived like strangers, whereas a common Baptism made us all the children of God. May this day mark the beginning of a road which, with God’s help, lead us to the day when our Churches can be reunited.” The relic -- the skull of St. Andrew, the Greek diocese’s patron saint -- was returned following conversations between Pope Paul and Metropolitan Constantine of Patras in the Holy Land. Text transcribed from caption: PC-31747 LAPLAND CHURCH MEMORIAL TO HAMMARSKJOLD LAPLAND -- A suggestion proposed by a Laplander mountain guide, Andreas Labba (top), has been realized in the form of a small church built in the wild northern Scandinavia country and dedicated to the memory of Dag Hammarskjold, Secretary-General of the United Nations who died in a plane crash in 1961. A friend and companion of the noted world figure on many hikes into the Lapland mountains, Mr. Labba traveled to Uppsala, Sweden, for Mr. Hammarskjold’s funeral and made his idea known. Institutions, firm and individuals -- mostly in Lapland -- responded with funds and the small church, built in the triangular form of a Lapp hut, was raised. Artistic silverwork, such as candlesticks and communion dishes, were given to the church by friends of Mr. Hammarskjold. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (2-NY-10-D-64-NBM)
