REFORMATION DAY, OCT. 31, 1949 LUTHER BEFORE CHARLES V #1574 Three months
after the Papal ban was pronounced against him, Martin Luther appeared before
Emperor Charles V. But his impassioned oratory failed to influence the
emperor (shown rising from his throne) and the ban was confirmed by imperial
authority at the Diet of Worms, little more than a month after the scene
above took place. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO
