#P-2007 KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Summertime in Kalamazoo is “Singspiration”
time--when hundreds of persons of all faiths gather in a public park of a
Sunday night to sing oldtime hymns. Non-denominational in character, the
“Singspiration” first proved a success during the war when it was started
as a means of providing wholesome entertainment for soldiers off duty. Its
success is based on a simple formula--lots of oldtime music, a little simple
devotion, and no collection. In the photo above, three gray-haired ladies
lift their voices in song. Selections often include “Rock of Ages,”
“The Old Rugged Cross,” and “In the Garden.” (One of Three Photos)
