CITY -- Pope Paul VI shakes hands with ailing six-year-old Edmund Cook from
Australia at an audience granted to the boy and his mother, Mrs. Elva Cook
(right). Looking on is Father Fabiano of the “Fatebene-fratelli” Italian
order of priests who take care of the sick in Rome. Edmund, who suffers from
a disorder of the pancreas, was on his way to the famed shrine of Our Lady of
Lourdes in France. Pope Paul, after embracing the boy, recited the Lord’s
Prayer with him, and promised to pray for him. The Pope also asked Edmund to
remember him in his prayers while at the Marian shrine. He gave the boy a
Rosary and imparted a special blessing on him and his mother and relatives in
Australia. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (W-5C-64-NAB)
