-- President Ford welcomed Premier Yitzhak Rabin of Israel to the White House
with a strong public pledge that the United States remained “committed to
Israel’s survival and security.” At the start of four days of talks about
the Middle East and Israeli-American relations, Mr. Rabin, a former
ambassador to Washington who was making his first visit to the U.S. as
Premier, received full honors -- a 19-gun salute, a military honor guard and
several thousand invited guests waving American and Israeli flags on the
south lawn of the White House. Here, from left, Mrs. Rabin, Mr. Ford, Mr.
