Text transcribed from caption: #S-4633 APPOINTMENT STIRS PROTEST PARIS -- Metropolitan Seraphim has been appointed by Patriarch Alexei of Moscow to succeed the late Metropolitan Eulogius, of Paris, as Exarch of the western European dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, but most of the Russian Orthodox parishes here have protested the appointment. Protests are based largely on charges that Metropolitan Seraphim is a former Nazi collaborator, and claims that control of the western dioceses properly belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate at Istanbul. The anti-Moscow group supports Archbishop Vladimir, of Nice, assistant to the late Exarch, who asserts he was named in Metropolitan Eulogius’ will to succeed him.
