HAVEN, Conn. -- A 2,000-year-old scroll accidentally discovered in Palestine
early last year is examined at American Schools of Oriental Research at Yale
University. Scroll is one of several ancient Hebrew manuscripts to be found
at same time. The Old Testaments manuscripts--whose discovery was hailed as
one of the most significant of its kind in modern times--include the oldest
known copy of the Book of Isaiah. Left to right: Prof. Millar Burrows,
Winkley Professor of Biblical Theology at Yale, who will edit published
translation of manuscripts; Metropolitan Athanasius Yeshue Samuel of the
Syrian Orthodox Monastery of St. Mark in Jerusalem, who owns the scrolls;
John C. Trever, director of the department of English Bible, International
Council of Religious Education; and the Rev. E. Sugar of the Syrian Orthodox
