TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Sculptor at work. Sister Marie De Montfort, R.S.H.M.,
director of a nationwide art contest sponsored by the Catholic Fine Arts
Society, works at her studio at Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y. Her
national Christmas Art Competition drew 1,500 entries from 44 states and
Puerto Rico. The art instructor says the competition was held "to stimulate
bold and original work and to dispel the attitude that art dealing with
religious themes had to be pale, effeminate and sentimental." All entries
dealt with the birth of Christ. Outstanding examples will be chosen for use
on 1964 Christmas cards. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO
