Text transcribed from caption: S-4227 HARVESTING “BIBLICAL” WHEAT ADRIAN, Mich. -- Mr. Perry Hayden (left center), a Quaker miller of Tecumseh, Mich., originator of the famed Biblical wheat experiment harvests a crop in the old-fashioned way at the Fair Grounds here. Hayden began the experiment six years ago by sowing 360 “dynamic kernels.” Each year since he gave ten percent of his harvest as a tithe to the church, replanted all the rest. Phillips, who calls himself the “Whiskey Bottle Evangelist,” has for five years been inserting religious tracts in the bottles, then has thrown them to sea. Here he is shown operating the machine he invented to roll the thousands of tracts in colored cellophane. Father Lynch assures all callers that he’s never known a quake to start in New York. Above, Father Lynch points to wavy lines on seismograph which indicate an actual quake in progress. Picture was painted by a Jewish artist and donated to the Shrine. This year commemorative services mark the 300th anniversary of the death of the two martyrs, St. Isaac Jogues, S.J., and St. John de LaLande, Jesuit lay brother. They were put to death in 1646 after being tortured by Mohawk Indians. Four years before their martyrdom St. Rene Goupil, S.J., suffered the same fate after being captured with St. Isaac Jogues.
