He has been an elder for 15 years, and was licensed to teach the Gospel two years ago. He will go Oklahoma to work on a translation of the New Testament into Arctic Eskimo dialect. He then will attend Bloomfield Theological Seminary, N.J., to prepare for ordination to the Presbyterian ministry. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (CHAMP-FAIR-MES-5C-6-W-M)

Text transcribed from caption: BUS SOLVES EVANGELISTS’ HOUSING SHORTAGE #s3519 LOS ANGELES -- Ten members of the Libbey family, touring evangelists, are shown on the “back porch” of their rolling home. They travel from state to state presenting programs of religious music in different churches. The entire family is musical, including 82-year-old Grandfather, who plays the drums. The bus was bought five years ago after being honorably retired by the Los Angeles transportation system. It has been converted into living quarters by installing Pullman-style berths in the lower deck that fold out of the ceiling. When the berths come down, curtains automatically fall over the windows. The upper deck is used to store musical instruments and for cooking and eating when the weather is fine. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (ANH-LA-MES-5B-6-W)

Text transcribed from caption: GYPSIES HONOR PATRONS #3702 SAINTES-MARIES-DE-LA-MER, France -- To this small Mediterranean seaport on the Feast of Province every year come Catholic gypsies from France, Spain and other countries to pay tribute to their patronesses, St. Sara, and her mistresses, the two Saint Marys - believed to be Mary Jacob and Mary Salome, aunts of the Virgin Mary - who, according to tradition, landed as missionaries on the shores of Gaul in 42 A.D. In this photograph gypsies are seen escorting statues of the two Marys, placed in a small boat, to the sea, where they are borne into the surf to cries of “Vivent les Saintes Maries.” On the previous day, a procession is staged in honor of St. Sara, gypsy Saint. Chor-Bishop Antoun Akl, a high dignitary of the Maronite (Eastern Rite) Catholic Church shown here (right) with the Rev. Elias Basil, pastor of St. Anne’s Syro-Maronite Catholic church. According to Bishop Akl, the Christians in Lebanon, only country in the Levant not dominated by Moslems, fear a pan-Arabic union. This would leave Lebanon Christians isolated in a Moslem world, Bishop Akl says, and they feel their religious liberties might be curtailed in such a situation. Text transcribed from caption: MONKS USE CORN DEHYDRATER [sic] #c-3344 DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Although their Cistercian rule is centuries-old, the monks of New Melleray Abbey near here employ twentieth century farming methods. Here Father Vincent Daly, O.C.S.O., Prior of the abbey, tests with a thermometer the heat control of the corn dehydrator on the abbey farm. The dehydrator is used to prepare corn that is not dry enough to be stored in cribs. It utilizes a fan to suck air from a kerosene flame, blowing it through a pipe into the open corn crib at the rate of 700 cubic feet a minute at 250 degrees temperature. The moisture in the corn is thus driven off in the form of a cloud of steam. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (AS-DUB-MES-4D-6-C)
