Text transcribed from caption: #43 CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF OKINAWA
Chaplain Roy N. Hillyer, senior chaplain of the Tenth Army on Okinawa (seated
at center of table) with leaders of the Christian community at Shimmabuke,
Okinawa [sic. Shimabuku, Okinawa]. The two men at the right of the table were
originally converted by a Methodist missionary who spent a short time on the
island, thirty years ago, while enroute to Japan. They are Mojon and Shosei
Kina, brothers. Seated at the left is Corporal Tom Higa, a native of
Shimmabuke [sic. Shimabuku], who had gone to school in Honolulu, and there
enlisted in the U.S. Army. Shosei is superintendent of the school system.
Both he and his brother have been preaching the Gospel from the Bible in the
Japanese language left with them by the missionary, thirty years ago. Credit
