Text transcribed from caption: EPO-31271 ROMANIAN ORTHODOX HOLD THANKSGIVING SERVICE GRASS LAKE, Mich. -- A thanksgiving service for America’s civil liberties was held by some 1,000 clergy and lay delegates and guests of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America at the denomination’s annual convention in Grass Lake, Mich. Officiating was Bishop Valerian D. Trifa of Jackson, Mich., head of the Episcopate since 1951 (left center). Other features of the meeting included processions and cultural festivals with songs and dances. At a convention session, delegates approved a resolution calling for the voluntary recitation of prayers and Bible reading public schools. The Episcopate is under the canonical jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of North America which does not recognize the Moscow Patriarchate.
