CHICAGO -- Mass communication’s increasing importance in the life of
American churches was recognized during commencement exercises at Chicago
Theological Seminary as the institution honored two churchmen prominent in
the field. Dr. Everett C. Parker (second from left), director of the Office
of Communication of the United Church of Christ and a leading participant in
National Council of Churches broadcasting and film activities, was awarded an
honorary Doctor of Divinity degree, and Dr. Kyle Haselden (right), American
Baptist clergyman who edits the ecumenical weekly, The Christian Century,
received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. At left is Dean Robert S.
Moore, seminary marshall [marshal], adjusting Dr. Parker’s academic hood as
Dr. Howard Schomer, seminary president, hands the churchman a diploma. Credit
