YORK -- President Truman pulls the rope of a bell presented to Fordham
University by Admiral Nimitz after it had been removed from the Japanese
aircraft carrier Junyo. Ceremony took place during century celebration of the
university at which the President received an honorary degree of Doctor of
Laws. Shown with Mr. Truman are (left to right): Bernard Cardinal Griffin,
Archbishop of Westminster, England, who also received an honorary degree;
Francis Cardinal Spellman, Archbishop of New York; Rev. Robert I. Gannon,
S.J., president of Fordham, and Admiral William D. Leahy, the President’s
