Description:
Text transcribed from caption: BAPTIST RETIRE CHAPEL CAR #S-3420 CHICAGO, Ill. -- Chicago’s Baptists have bidden farewell to one of the last vestiges of a vanishing era in American life--a “chapel” car. A historic relic of Frontier Christianity, the “church on wheels” owned by the Northern Baptist Convention was on exhibition here before making its last trip to the convention’s assembly ground at Green Lake, Wisconsin. Known as “Grace” the car contained pulpit, organ, pews for 65 worshippers and a three-room apartment for the minister and his family. Standing beside the car here are the Rev. and Mrs. Howard Parry who used the car at Provo, Utah for two years. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (PA-NY-LM-5A-6-W-B)
