Jacobs, father superior of the St. Regis mission on the St. Lawrence River here, is the first of North America’s 37,000 Iroquois to become a Jesuit. A full-blooded Mohawk (one of the member tribes of the Iroquois), Father Jacobs is said to be the only priest to serve at one time in two provinces, two countries and under three bishops. His parish lies partly in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, and partly in New York State. And his 3, 100 parishioners are both Canadian and American. A historic relic of Frontier Christianity, the “church on wheels” owned by the Northern Baptist Convention was on exhibition here before making its last trip to the convention’s assembly ground at Green Lake, Wisconsin. Known as “Grace” the car contained pulpit, organ, pews for 65 worshippers and a three-room apartment for the minister and his family.
