- "A most historic picture. The first church building, built entirely by Koreans, in Korea. Dedicated by Dr. Underwood in 1895. A Christian congregation had been worshipping in Sorai village before the first Presbyterian missionaries set foot in Korea (Dr. Horace Allen) in 1884. This congregation was composed of smugglers who had heard the gospel from missionaries in Chefoo, China and Manchuria. RH Baird, Apr. '73."

- Farewell to Dr. Speer on the road to Pyengyang. Dr. Speer, right of center, is bare-headed, bearded, + wears black, bow tie. Dr. Speer, new Board Sec., was on a trip around the world to study missions. He visited Pyengyang station with Rev. Graham Lee (who is at left in the picture wearing western style straw hat). They walked from Pyengyang to Seoul, + this group of Koreans went with them as far as Whangju, where this picture was taken.
