- Liturgical pioneers at 'English' Mass.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-31519 LITURGICAL PIONEERS AT 'ENGLISH' MASS ST. LOUIS -- A touching and impressive moment at the Liturgical Week convention in St. Louis. Father Godfrey Diekmann, O.S.B., of St. John's Benedictine Abbey, Collegeville, Minn., distributes Holy Communion to Father H.A. Reinhold of Pittsburgh. Father Diekmann, editor of Worship magazine, and Father Reinhold, a member of the National Catholic Liturgical Conference's board of directors, were pioneers in the U.S. liturgical movement. Picture was taken during the third 'English' Mass celebrated at the convention. In August, 1961, Father Reinhold predicted that the vernacular would be adopted by the Second Vatican Council, holding that "we (the U.S.) have more reason to be for the vernacular than any nation."
