- Text transcribed from caption: PC-30527 'ARMY' HELPS A CATHOLIC SCHOOL CLEVELAND -- Help from the Salvation Army. Col. Paul S. Kaiser, commander for the Salvation Army's Northeastern Ohio Division, right, presented a tape recorder, four sets of earphones and other equipment needed by the St. Emeric Special School for Exceptional Children in Cleveland. Sister Mary Fidelia, S.S.J., and a student inspect the recorder which will be used to help correct speech defects. Col. - Text transcribed from caption: C-30700 'KING'S MEN' COULDN'T, BUT SISTER CAN LORAIN, OH -- Humpty Dumpty was one of the first patients treated here in the enlarged St. Joseph Hospital. Actually it's a stuffed Humpty Dumpty used by Sister Mary Lucia, H.H.M., to help pass the time for the young Stacey Mortimer, 2. Rebuilding of the hospital cost $750,000 and included a psychiatric unit, a rehabilitation department and a 45-bed pediatrics division. Left to right, they are Bishop Eugene C. Hatcher of the Third Episcopal District, African Methodist Episcopal Church; Protestant Episcopal Bishop Nelson M. Burroughs of Ohio; Auxiliary Bishop John F. Whealon of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, and Dr. Daniel J. Silver, rabbi of The Temple in Cleveland. They designated representatives to draw up plans for a permanent conference. - Text transcribed from caption: #501 AN ELECTRICALLY WELDED CHURCH BUILDING; THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND Cleveland, Ohio…Here is a church constructed of steel, and erected and joined together entirely by electric welding. In its construction, six half-circles of steel plate were used. These had been shaped in the form of the church roof and fabricated by electric welding. The total cost of the church which was built by the R.G. LeTourneau, Inc. of Peoria, Ill. was $2,000. This included designing, fabrication and field erection. - Text transcribed from caption: C-29673 AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Christ Child Society, a Catholic women’s group in Cleveland, has started a program of scholarships for Negro boys entering Catholic high schools. The scholarships cover tuition, fees and books, and are for four years, with a total value of $1,000 each. Mrs. William Townsend, Christ Child president, is shown presenting the scholarships to the first three winners: Maurice Bertrand, and Victor and Richard Cohea. The boys graduated from St. Thomas Elementary School in Cleveland. The society said it will award two or three scholarships each year to outstanding students.
