- Text transcribed from caption: C-30363 PRIEST FOR THE DEAF NEWARK, N.J. -- Father John P. Hourihan, director of the Newark arch-diocese’s Mount Carmel Guild Center for the Deaf, conducts a Christmas service in sign language for some 600 deaf people from the See. The priest used sign language throughout the whole service, which included Benediction and a sermon. The service was held in connection with an interreligious Christmas party sponsored by the Guild at Newark’s St. Francis Xavier church. - Text transcribed from caption: C-30363 PRIEST FOR THE DEAF NEWARK, N.J. -- Father John P. Hourihan, director of the Newark arch-diocese’s Mount Carmel Guild Center for the Deaf, conducts a Christmas service in sign language for some 600 deaf people from the See. The priest used sign language throughout the whole service, which included Benediction and a sermon. The service was held in connection with an interreligious Christmas party sponsored by the Guild at Newark’s St. Francis Xavier church. - Text transcribed from caption: C-30362 LISTENING TO HER HANDS NEWARK, N.J. -- Deaf children listen with rapt attention as Gladys Winter, volunteer chairman of the Newark archdiocese’s Mount Carmel Guild Center for the Deaf, “speaks,” with sign language. The occasion was an interreligious party sponsored by the center at Newark’s St. Francis Xavier church. At center is Father John P. Hourihan, the center’s director, who conducted a service in sign language prior to the party.
