- Somebody call a cab?
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-29850 SOMEBODY CALL A CAB? CLEVELAND, Ohio -- St. Joseph’s Academy, Catholic high school for girls in Cleveland, called a cab here for their students -- some 600 of them. The girls wanted to attend a special performance of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” at the nearby Lakewood Civic Auditorium. School officials found that chartered buses were too expensive for a relatively short haul, so they made a deal with a local cab company -- 25 cents a head. Nearly 40 cabs were put into a shuttle operation between the school and auditorium. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (RF-CLE-9B-63-RB)

- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-29718 MEDIEVAL TREASURE AT CLEVELAND MUSEUM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Scenes from the life of Christ are depicted in these miniature paintings taken from pages of the Gotha Missal -- a medieval Mass book recently acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art. Containing the main body of the missal and the Church calendar, the 164-page work is French and dates from 1375. Thought to be made for Charles V of France, it is known as the Gotha Missal because it was once owned by the Duke of Gotha in Germany. The manuscript has been attributed to Jean Bondol, French court painter and valet de chambre of Charles V at that time. At tope is the book opened up to illustrations entitled “The Crucifixion,” at left, and “Christ in Majesty.” Miniature scenes at the bottom are (from left): “The Annunciation,” in which Mary learns from the Angel Gabriel that she is to be the mother of Christ; “The Resurrection;” and “The Trinity,” a representation of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. - Description
- Text transcribed from caption: RECREATES NEW TESTAMENT PERSONALITIES #s-3195 CLEVELAND -- The Rev. Franklin D. Butchart believes that the best way to bring the Bible to his audiences is through a recreation of its great personalities. Garbed in costumes of the Biblical ages he gives vivid impersonations of John, Peter or Paul. Mr. Butchart, who is minister of the Glenville Christian church here, delivers his readings in many churches of Greater Cleveland. He credits his wife with much of the success of his presentations as she supervises his makeup and stage technique. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (JT-CLEVE-MES-4B-6-W-B)

- Clergyman dies in civil rights protest.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PC-30847 CLERGYMAN DIES IN CIVIL RIGHTS PROTEST CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The grim grin of shock spreads across the face of a civil rights demonstrator at the sight of a 26-year-old United Presbyterian clergyman’s dead body sprawled across the track of a bulldozer that ran over him at a Cleveland, Ohio, school construction site. The Rev. Bruce W. Klunder, a Student Christian Union leader on Cleveland area campuses, was killed as he threw himself onto the ground behind a bulldozer. Three other demonstrators had jumped in front of the bulldozer and it backed up over the minister. The operator of the machine said he didn’t know Mr. Klunder was in his path. - Chapel sought as veterans’ monument.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: 3817 CHAPEL SOUGHT AS VETERANS’ MONUMENT [2] AKRON, Ohio -- Members of a local veterans’ committee inspect the 70-year-old chapel in Glendale Cemetery here which they are seeking to have redirected as a memorial to Akron’s dead of all wars. It was built after the Civil War to honor men of Akron who died in that conflict, but with the passage of time its significance was lost. Judge Arthur W. Doyle, who is leading the drive to restore the chapel, wants the campaign to be backed by the entire community, with the chapel to be placed under the trusteeship of a council composed of representatives from all active veterans groups.
