- The Sergeant comes home.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #789 THE SERGEANT COMES HOME Machine guns couldn’t stop Sergt. Joseph Michael O’Connell when he crawled across a battlefield with a wounded comrade on his back. It took a 500-pound shell to do the job and bring him back to the only home he knew for eight years after his mother died and left his father with nine children. Shown above arriving at St. Joseph’s, he found the old apple tree, a new basketball court and admiring 6-year-old Vincent Ryan. St. Joseph’s is one of 152 agencies depending on your contribution to the Community War Fund campaign. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (FAR-WASH-G-10165)
