- Text transcribed from caption: #1036 PLUMBING IS THIS MONK’S SPECIALTY Holder of a plumber’s diploma, Brother Philip Girard of the Roman Catholic Redemptorist Order, helped install fixtures in the new monastery and church built by eight priests in the 43-family hinterland parish of Devonshire, Ontario. Valued at $60,000, the new structure was built by the priests at a cost of only $8,000. Every phase of the project from spreading gravel on the driveway to installing two giant hot water furnaces was done by a brother or priest. - Text transcribed from caption: 16,000 ATTEND ‘SERVICE OF WITNESS’ #s-3477 TORONTO -- Canadian Protestants crowd Maple Leaf Gardens here for a “service of witness” sponsored by the Canadian Council of Churches. The inter-denominational assembly drew thousands more who, unable to enter the stadium, went to nearby churches where loud-speaking equipment had been installed. In background above is shown the massed choir of 1,200 representing 200 Toronto and district churches. Orchestra is the Toronto Symphony.
