WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Representatives of the Taos Pueblo tribe appear before a Senate subcommittee on Indian Affairs to ask the return of 48,000 acres known as the Blue Lake area in northern New Mexico. They are (left to right) Quirino Romero, governor of Taos Pueblo; Severino Martinez, 80-year-old spokesman for the Tribal Council; and Paul J. Bernal, council secretary. The lands were seized in 1906 and made a part of the National Forest Preserve. The House has already passed a bill which would return the lands to the Indians. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima ten years ago, prays for world peace after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The Methodist minister, Director of the Hiroshima Peace Center Associates, is on a visit to this country. he prayed that under the "peerless leadership" of President Eisenhower "world disarmament may take place within our lifetimes." Meanwhile, Mr. Carter advised the Soviet Union in a speech before Southern legislators at Charleston, S.C., that the U.S. was prepared to limit its strategic weapons programs, such as the development of the cruise missile, if Moscow would agree to controls on its heavy intercontinental missiles.
