- Text transcribed from caption: C-32000 CRECHE BANNED BY DUBLIN ARCHBISHOP DUBLIN -- This ultra-modernistic crib of ten carved wooden figures was ordered removed by Archbishop John Charles McQuaid of Dublin from Our Lady Queen of Heaven church at the Dublin Airport. Following a visit to the church, the archbishop termed the Nativity Scene “beneath the level of human dignity in that they (the figures) are not human.” He said public veneration of the figures purporting to be sacred without previous sanction by the archbishop was against Canon Law and the proscriptions of the Holy See. The creche was the work of Fergus O’Farrell, a Dublin artist and sculptor, who said he had made similar cribs for use in England and the U.S. Archbishop McQuaid also had removed from the airport church the Stations of the Cross designed by a young Dublin artist, Sheila Corcoran.
