- Santa Claus wins against Aztec God.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: SANTA CLAUS WINS AGAINST AZTEC GOD #S-1224 MEXICO CITY -- That the Mexican government has lost its fight to institute the Aztec God, Quetzalcoatl, as the symbol of Santa Claus in the Republic is shown in this picture taking at exercises terminating the school holiday in Tlalpan, suburb of Mexico City. For several years a movement has been under way to supplant Saint Nicholas, the jolly bewhiskered Santy Claus beloved by children of every land, with a flamboyant, befeathered Indian. Quetzalcoatl may have served very well to brighten little Aztec hearts centuries ago, but Santy Claus is the guy, according to these eleven little Mexican students.
