- Text transcribed from caption: P-31123 PRESIDENT AT NEHRU MEMORIAL SERVICE WASHINGTON, D. C. -- President Johnson is greeted by Dean Francis B. Sayre, Jr., of Washington Cathedral (Episcopal) as he arrives to attend a memorial service for the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India. Some 2,000 dignitaries and guests attended the service, conducted by Dean Sayre. Nearly half of the worshippers were Indians. Dean Sayre eulogized the Indian leader as a man “who believed in a moral order that stands above man’s laws.” Mr. Nehru served as Prime Minister from 1947 when India became independent from Great Britain until his death. Above, the late President takes the oath of office on Jan. 20, 1961. Administering the oath is Chief Justice Earl Warren. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-32073 PRESIDENT ATTENDS INAUGURAL SERVICE WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President and Mrs. Johnson leave National City Christian church, accompanied by its pastor, Dr. George R. Davis, after an interreligious Inauguration Day service. Behind them are Lynda B. and Luci B., the President’s daughters; Evangelist Billy Graham, who preached the sermon; and Vice President and Mrs. Humphrey. The service in the Disciples of Christ national church, which the President attends, was led by Dr. Davis. Prayers also were offered by Episcopal, Catholic and Jewish clergy. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-32075 PRESIDENT TAKES OATH ON FAMILY BIBLE WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Johnson, with one had resting on the family Bible held by his wife, takes his oath of office, administered by Chief Justice Earl Warren. Vice President Hubert Humphrey was sworn in minutes earlier by House Speaker John McCormack of Massachusetts. The Bible which Mrs. Johnson held had been given to the President’s family by his mother, Mrs. Rebekah Baines Johnson, 13 years ago when they moved to the LBJ ranch in Johnson City, Texas.
