- Text transcribed from caption: PRESENT CITATIONS TO HEROIC CHAPLAINS NEXT OF KIN #1155 NEW YORK -- Father George B. Ford, New York, presents sitations [sic] to next of kin of four Protestant, Jewish and Catholic Navy chaplains who died together in the sinking of the transport Dorchester in 1943 after giving their lifebelts to others aboard the ship. The citations were given by the Committee of Catholics for Human Rights at a dinner in the Hotel Roosevelt, New York. The four recipients, shown left to right, were Mrs. Clarke V. Poling and Mrs. George L. Fox, wives of the Protestant chaplains; Mrs. Leonard A. Schwoebel, sister of Catholic Chaplain John P. Washington; and Mrs. Alexander D. Goode, wife of the Jewish chaplain.
