- PP-22643 POLICE ARREST DR. KING FOR "LOITERING" MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is hustled off to jail by Montgomery police where he was detained for 15 minutes on a charge of loitering. Dr. King, leader of the Negro boycott against Jim Crow buses here in 1956, was arrested outside a City Hall courtroom where he had gone to attend a hearing for a Negro accused of attacking an integration leader. The 29-year-old pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist church here accused the police of beating and kicking him. He was released in $100 bond.
