- Methodist, Lutheran leaders confer.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #C-4630 FATHER FOLLOWS SON IN RELIGIOUS ORDER WALTHAM, Mass. -- John J. Henry, 60-year-old father of nine children (kneeling, right), receives the habit of a lay brother of the Stigmatine Order from his son, the Rev. Thomas Henry, in a history-making ceremony at the order’s Juniorate here. Standing are the Rev. George Ecker, C.P.S. (left), and the Rev. John Golden, C.P.S. Because of his age, a special dispensation from the Pope was necessary before the new brother could be invested. It is said to be the first time in the history of the order that a father and son had taken part in the same ceremony. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (TOC-POST-MES-10B-6-C)

- Childhood church re-created.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: #C-4301 CHILDHOOD CHURCH RE-CREATED NEW YORK -- Built from memory is this replica of the church Dominic Zazzera attended in Pieve, Italy before coming to this country as a teen-age-youth. Zazzera, who is chef in a restaurant here, took special pride in the model, for his grandfather designed the original church. Complete with lights, pews, altars and carpeting for the center aisle, the church is a masterpiece of detail. A small victrola sounds the Ave Maria and bells from the chime tower. Model cost $4,000 to build. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (3L-NY-MES-8C-6-C)

Quentin K.Y. Huang (above), Protestant Episcopal Bishop of Kunming, China, told parishioners of the Grace Episcopal Church here. He is presently touring the United States seeking church assistance for famine-stricken areas in his country that are suffering from the ravages of eight war years. - Text transcribed from caption: FRONTIER PARSONAGE #4909 MOOSE FACTORY, Ont. -- The Rev. Gilbert Thompson (standing in doorway), is a bilingual rural dean since he holds service in Cree as well as in English. When the occasion demands he can also preach a little in Eskimo dialects. His Indian parishioners far outnumber the whites. Above, some of them prepare to return home on snowshoes after church services. Woman on left has to carry a “ticnogan” or papoose board as well. During winter Sundays Mr. Thompson must walk eight miles through snowdrifts to conduct his services in this frontier town and in neighboring Moosonee.
