- Text transcribed from caption: C-30412 THE SINGING NUN ON TV Millions of Americans saw “Soeur Sourire” (The Singing Nun) as she and the other Dominican nuns sang on the Ed Sullivan Show. Their portion of the program was video-taped at the nuns’ convent in Fichermont, Belgium. The Singing Nun, shown strumming her guitar, sang her hit song “Dominique,” and “Hallelujah” and “Les Pieds Des Missionaires.” It was her first public appearance. “Dominique” and the nun’s first album both top recording sales in the U.S. She is in training for foreign mission service. Below, the nun, whose real name is Sister Luc-Gabrielle, makes a recording of her songs at the convent. Sung in French, her folk-type songs now head the best-seller list in America. The most popular of the 12 songs in her album, “The Singing Nun,” is “Dominique,” a joyful ballad about the founder of her order. On a single disc, it has sold more than 750,000 copies since October. - Text transcribed from caption: PC-31863 BELGIAN ROYALTY COMFORTS NUN BRUSSELS -- Sister Anne Marie Merkens, rescued from Congolese rebels, is comforted by Belgian King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola on arrival at the Brussels airport. The Catholic nun was among many whites rescued from the hands of rebels in Stanleyville by Belgian paratroops. Sister Anne Marie told the Associated Press that she and other nuns had been forced by the rebels to parade down a street in Basoto, near Stanleyville.
