- Moscow--Patriarch Alexei, head of the Russian Orthodoc Church (right), was presented with this large silver chalice by a group of nine American Protestant leaders who were on a 10-day visit to Moscow. Shown translating the inscription on the cup is Paul B. Anderson of New York, a member of the visiting delegation, who speaks Russian. The trip was sponsored by the National Council of Churches at the invitation of Patriarch Alexei. Heading the delegation was Dr. Eugene Carson Blake of Philadelphia, president of the National Council.

- Text transcribed from caption: PC-30575 FIRST PROTESTANT CHAPEL IN MOSCOW MOSCOW -- U.S. Ambassador Foy D. Kohler reads the Scripture lesson during services dedicating Christ Church in Moscow -- the first Protestant chapel to be established for the English-speaking community in the Russian city. Pastor of the new church is the Rev. Donald V. Roberts, a United Presbyterian clergyman from Tonawanda, N.Y., who has been a chaplain in Moscow since 1962 under a special Moscow Ministry Project of the National Council of Churches. The chapel, which can seat about 75, is located in one room of the apartment occupied by the Roberts family. A similar arrangement exists for Roman Catholics in the Moscow foreign colony. - Text transcribed from caption: PCJ-45680 PANOVS OBTAIN VISAS MOSCOW -- Ballet dancer Valery Panov beams as he displays the exit visas issued in Moscow for him and his wife, dancer Galina Ragozina Panov. Mr. Panov, who is a Jew, and his wife had been trying for more than two years to leave the Soviet Union for Israel. The former star of the Kirov Ballet said he obtained visas to transit through Austria and enter Israel in only ten minutes but that the Soviet clearance procedures were more complex. Brezhnev sign a tentative agreement limiting the numbers of all offensive strategic nuclear weapons and delivery vehicles through 1985. Looking on during the summit meeting Vladivostok are, from left: Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko, Soviet Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Dobrynin, and two unidentified officials. The arm control agreement was termed a “breakthrough” by Secretary Kissinger. He said the accord, which includes specific numbers for each side, would be subject to further negotiations in Geneva next year on technical questions.
