- A hundred, but he is still young.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: A HUNDRED, BUT HE IS STILL YOUNG S-1548 LAWTON, Oklahoma -- Bishop W. Angie Smith congratulates Tsa-Toke (“The Young Man Who Hunts a Horse”) on the celebration of his 100th birthday. Hunting Horse, Keowas Indian, converted to Christianity 50 years ago, served as a scout under General Custer, and was intimate enough with General Sherman to call him “Red Whiskers.” More than 100 persons -- relative, military men from Ft. Sill, church leaders, and members of ten Indian tribes -- braved snow and cold to attend Hunting Horse’s centennial celebration. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (MS-LA-MES-1-6-W-M)

- Church gives them a home.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: CHURCH GIVES THEM A HOME #s-3172 MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- When Thomas Vitkowski came back from overseas service, his five battle stars were of little help in finding himself and his wife a home. But when he and Mrs. Vitkowski told their trouble to the Rev. W. Harold Weigle, rector of St. Paul’s church here, their problem was solved. The parish house of the church was turned into an apartment for the couple, shown here spending a quiet evening at home. Mr. Weigle believes that seven more apartments can be fixed up in the same building. Churches in other communities are taking similar measures to house veterans and their families.
